VoIP is great, but how do I use it?

Written by

Softphone ATA or IP PhoneDigital phone, Internet phone, VoIP, it’s all the same thing. And you can get it right here at OneSuite for a ridiculously low price, without binding contracts!

The most “advantageous” part of using SuiteAdvantage is BYOD – bring your own device! Sounds like a party? It is, because you get to have fun and choose.

Based on your calling habits and planned budget, you can choose from our suggested usage methods:

Use OneSuite VoIP on my laptop

Device: OneSuite softphone
Suitable for: callers who often use their PC/laptop
Setup difficulty: easy
Cost: 0
*Handy user tip: use your softphone on its own to make VoIP calls, or as a companion to your ATA or IP phone for added mobility!

Just download the OneSuite softphone on to your PC or laptop, register your user information, and you can get started on receiving and making calls!

Don’t know how to download our softphone? Visit our screenshot guide for step-by-step instructions.

Use OneSuite VoIP on my existing analog phone set

Device: ATA
Suitable for: callers who like to use their existing phones, and have to the option to keep their current landline phone, and use SuiteAdvantage as a second line
Setup difficulty: average
Cost: average (starting from US$25)

ATAs are small and relatively easy to set up, you can find them in most electronic and online stores. Connect your ATA to your analog phone set, then to a router, and register your information and you are ready to receive and make calls!

Don’t know how to configure an ATA device? Most devices will already come with instructions, and individual products will offer online support. If you’d like to get an example of configuring your OneSuite settings on an ATA, check our previous blog post for a step-by-step guide.

Use OneSuite VoIP on an IP phone set

Device: IP phone
Suitable for: callers who don’t need a analog phone line, and want to reap all the VoIP benefits and are ready to upgrade their phones
Setup difficulty: slightly difficult
Cost: average + (starting from US$37)

Do what most budget-conscious small businesses have already done, upgrade to an IP phone to take advantage of the low cost of calling on the Internet. Find them at an electronic or online store, and with some patience, you’ll be set up to make cheap international calls.

Don’t know how to configure your IP phone? Your IP phone will likely already come with instructions, and support is available online. If you’d like to get an example of configuring your OneSuite settings on an IP phone, check our previous blog post for a step-by-step guide.

I have used Onesuite for about 6 years, and have always been happy with the service. I now find myself calling from overseas. The Onesuite dialer for android should allow this, but use phone minutes. If a VoIP app existed, I could use my free wifi access to make the call to US landline numbers.
